My Favorite Thing From This Past Year
Today, my daughter turned one.
During dinner, my wife and I asked each other, “What’s your favorite memory of this year?”
It’s impossible to select one moment.
But after I put my daughter to bed tonight, it was easy to remember what my favorite thing has been: reading to her.
Even before she was born, we read to her.
It’s been a longstanding part of our nightly routine, and we definitely have our favorite books.
As I rhymed my way through tonight’s ritual, I thought about how special reading is and what a gift it is to share it with someone.
I remember my Dad reading Huckleberry Finn to me. And, I can remember working together to solve Two Minute Mysteries.
I’m so grateful, fortunate and privileged to have grown up in a house with books, and I’m thankful I can do the same for Lillian.
Going forward, I’m going to share my love of reading and empower others through donations and volunteering.
A Quote from Mastery by Robert Greene
“We may not be aware of it, but we suffer from the dead forms and conventions that clutter our culture.”
